March: In like a lion… out like ??

March 3rd, 2005 · 1 Comment

There’s a saying about March:
It comes in like a lion… and out like a lamb.

That was true for March in Bellevue, Nebraska…
and if “like a lion” means “no stop to the bazillion days of rain we had in February and as if it wasn’t cold enough already, we are going even lower”… well… then maybe that saying is true here in Taipei as well.

I feel a little embarassed to be commenting on the weather again… but the rain here has been AMAZING. Here’s what I mean…

  • The AVERAGE rainfall for Taipei in March is: 180cm
  • Today is March 3rd… some parts of Taipei are already OVER 100cm.

I would be lying if I told you it wasn’t beginning to affect my mood… and the moods of my 6,000,000 neighbors.

I have never liked getting wet if I didn’t have to outside of the pool or the beach… but during my 5 years in Taiwan, I have just gotten used to the rain. You just can’t let it stop you here. Don’t wait for the rain to stop, because it is just as likely to get worse… the ocean currents and the high mountains make predictions even more difficult than predicting the weather is in most places in the world. SO… if you have stuff to do… just put on your raincoat or grab your umbrella and get at it! BUT…

This rain is starting to get to me…
