A bit about quivers…

March 4th, 2005 · No Comments

Now that we have 4 children… I guess we have crossed a line of sorts… a line in the mind that makes people want to ask, “Don’t you know how that (pregnancy) happens?”

Most people in Taiwan have 2 children… usually a boy and a girl.
Most of our peers in Taiwan have more than 5 brothers and/or sisters… some more than 10! But these same people now think that any more than 2 children is too many.

In 1964, the government popularized the catchphrase “Few Children, More Happiness”. This was used to encourage people to have only three children. In 1971, the slogan “Two Children is Just Right” was instituted. It is somewhat sad to see because the traditional Chinese mindset that many children means greater happiness had been shattered. I see that the newest slogan is something like, “Have more children and have a happier life.” But actually… it isn’t just a Chinese mindset… Here’s what God’s Word says in Psalm 127:3-5 (The Message):

“Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift? The fruit of the womb his generous legacy? Like a warrior’s fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth. Oh, how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children! Your enemies don’t stand a chance against you; you’ll sweep them right off your doorstep.”

That said… quivers do come in different sizes… and right now we think ours is of the size pictured.
