3/6 Earthquakes

March 7th, 2005 · No Comments

We got to spend an unexpected 30-45 minutes with our kids the other night…

First thing… we are all OK.

We were awakened by a strong earthquake at 3:06AM on the morning of March 6th.
MRS SQJ grabbed the baby… and we made our way to the kids’ rooms. I was shaken to the ground on the way… praise God I wasn’t carrying the baby. I literally caught Zach in mid-air bailing out of his top bunk… and even Josh was awake, but not totally. We took our positions in the doorframes by a support beam in the ceiling and began to sing and pray.

We heard a lot of banging, but only a couple things actually fell and they were not breakable so not only are we OK… but our possessions are as well… which is not necessary, but is nice!

All in all… there were above 4.0 on the Richter Scale between 2:59AM and 11:02AM on March 6th. The second one was 5.9 and woke us up and before it was really over, a second 5.9 hit.

The epicenter of all the quakes was very near the Home of God’s Love (Ted & Bev Skiles) in Ilan County on Taiwan’s East Coast. They had all the children up and ready to evacuate… but it ended up not being necessary to evacuate.

It is SUCH a strange feeling to be standing still and yet moving all around……..
