Howard is one of the students in my English class at Nanya Technology. I mentioned this class before.

Howard is smart (as are ALL of my students at this hi-tech company!). He is also funny. I asked Howard how he was keeping warm since the weather has gotten cold lately. He said… “I only need 2 things. A pretty girl on my right side and a pretty girl on my left side.” A big smile and laughter followed.

I think Howard is also wise… because he asks good questions. Last night at class, he asked, “So if Arthur or Galen say that they saw God and they write it down, it means that God exists?” He was responding to my assertion that one clue we have that supports the credibility of the New Testament is that the writers were either eyewitnesses of Jesus or at least their peers were eyewitnesses. There is more to this argument, but that’s the “gist” of it.

I think this is evidence of a person who seeks good answers. Howard definitely has his own opinions about matters of life and faith and science and religion, etc… but his questions are thoughtful and precise. I’m not sure that I am always able to give him all the answers he seeks… I pray that I am. But I’m always encouraged by Jesus’ words, “Seek and you will find.” How can I not believe that those words apply to Howard and to all others who honestly seek truth?

This is the time of the year when we see the phrase, “Wise men still seek Him.” Isn’t that a great little phrase?

Those who seek God are given the benefit of the doubt, that if they seek Him, they will find Him. This is actually a promise in scripture: “…He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV). This is why those of us who already know Him don’t have to jump all over those who are seeking when they get something wrong or don’t put it in exactly the right words.
