If you call us at 3AM… we’ll probably answer the phone that way.
I know this because that is what happened last night.
This is one of the interesting things about living on the other side of the world… when our phone rings at 3AM it can ONLY mean one of 3 things:
- Someone in Taiwan dialed a wrong number.
- Someone is calling from the USA to chat with us and figured the time change wrong.
- Someone is calling from the USA to give us some urgent (and probably sad) news.
#1 hardly ever happens because it IS the middle of the night and people very very very rarely dial wrong numbers while they are sleeping. #2 hardly ever happens (any more) because we’ve been here long enough that most people know the time difference. That leaves #3… when the phone rings in the middle of the night… we immediately think this is the reason for the call. So… that plus the fact we’re coming out of deep stage 14 sleep (or whatever)… you’re somewhat likely to hear us answer the phone like we did last night.
Except that NOW I guess we’ll need to add ANOTHER possible reason to the list of reasons why people might call us at 3 AM.
- Because the Pittsburgh Steelers are up 14-0 with 12 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.
That’s what my “friend” called us about last night. 
MRS SQJ and I were laughing so hard… we couldn’t sleep for about 30 minutes. And to be totally fair… my “friend” thought I’d be up following the game. The truth is… I knew Pittsburgh would win so just decided to go to bed.
