Here’s a link to a GREAT sermon!
Actually… it is a link to a page with several sermons and while I’m sure they are all pretty good sermons… the one I’m talking about is the one with the same title of this post. It is the first in a series through the book of Acts so the congregation can investigate what the early church was like.
Acts 2:46-47 - The Message
They followed a daily discipline of worship in the Temple followed by meals at home, every meal a celebration, exuberant and joyful, as they praised God. People in general liked what they saw. Every day their number grew as God added those who were saved.
I love thinking about the early church… and comparing our “church” experience today with what the early believers considered to be “church”. One striking difference is that they wouldn’t have even used the word “church” like I just did in that previous sentence and in other ways we have become accustomed to using it. As a “church planter”, we find that the best help to our work is the Bible book of ACTS.
The preacher is Ralph Mehrens and he is the Senior Minister at the church I attended growing up… Calvary Christian Church in Bellevue, Nebraska. Calvary is also our largest supporting church and have a history of “saving our bacon”. Their collective love for us is overwhelming.
