As you know… Sean C and I went to the Cornerstone Festival last week. What a blast. It was a great experience and we thought we’d report back with this short list of tips we gathered during our experience.
We camped during our stay… July 5 through 9… and we had the chance to hear some great speakers and bands (and some not so good bands too). I’ll post later on the bands we saw and the workshops we attended.
In no particular order… here are the tips:
- If you bring canned goods… you’ll also want to bring a can opener.
- The “freaks” are out at Cornerstone… so leave your idea of what Christians look like at home.
- Get the program early (like weeks early) and try to plan out what you’d most like to do or see or listen to each day. You won’t be able to do everything… but a good plan will help you get to almost everything that you are most interested in.
- Don’t wear open toed sandals into the mosh pit.
- If you must wear them… keep your glasses on in the mosh pit. Tight elastic straps (a la Kurt Rambis) would work well for this. If you don’t have a strap… maybe your friend will miraculously catch them before they fall to the ground and are trampled.
- Don’t just go listen to the bands. There are films… art shows… workshops… in addition to the 300 bands. Make sure your plan includes things other than music.
- That said… you’ll probably listen to a lot of music and we recommend that you try some bands you’ve never heard of or that you have heard of and that are out of your “comfort zone”.
- Make sure you talk to other people at the event. It is a great place to meet new people.
- If you take an air mattress… make sure it is rated for the amount of weight you are expecting it to hold. Testing it before you go would probably be wise.
- The showers on the grounds are better than expected… but if you plan to shower, you might like to bring a towel.
There ya go… if you have any specific questions… leave a comment and Sean C or I will do our best to answer.
