Angie and I finally saw End of the Spear last week. Great movie.
I’m sure most of you have already seen it… but I’d recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.
I thought that it would be “too Christian” and turn off a lot of people… or that it would be “too secular” and avoid all mention of “mission” and focus on humanitarian issues. Instead… I was very pleased to find out they they walked a fine line and they walked it well. It presented everyone fairly, IMO. In the past… Christian movies made it seem like Christians are perfect and “the natives” must be civilized. Not the case in this movie…
I’ve attached what I thought was the most overtly “fundamentalist” scene below…
Anyone seen any good movies lately?

Alecia and I loved this scene. It definately makes you think about your position in life.

I don’t understand how something Christian could “turn people off” unless a person is relating Christianity to some bad Christians. If you relate it to Jesus, and realize the followers of Jesus are sinners who believe He died so they could be saved, God’s beauty comes to life.
Some people think the writers of the “End of the Spear” purposely “watered-down” the gospel, so as to not make the movie too religious. After reading Steve Saints interviews, we learn that isn’t true and the portrayal is exactly the way the gospel was presented to the Waodani.
I think one of the problems with Christians today is we are afraid to offend people with our beliefs. There is nothing offensive about Jesus Christ! Christianity isn’t about being perfect - it’s about realizing you aren’t perfect and being broken by that knowledge. Then realizing you must rely on God.
