The entire book of Job is a wonder to me. In some respects it seems to be evidence that the Bible is real… and accurate… because if you were making up a religion (as some claim) and if you were making up a God (as some claim) why would it look anything like what we see in Job?
Ralph Mehrens at Calvary Christian Church preached from Job yesterday and I respect Brother Mehrens all the more as time passes. In a time where TV evangelists are claiming to have all the answers… including the date of the 2nd coming, which Jesus HIMSELF even says HE doesn’t know… I’m thankful for Ralph’s humanity. I love it when preachers say these 3 words: I DON’T KNOW.
And as we read Job… and we ask the big questions… the ones that start with “WHY”… you know the ones… I think the best answer is “I don’t know”.
Did you ever notice that Job NEVER finds out (this side of heaven) about WHY all those bad things happened to him? In the last 5 chapters… God reveals his glory and sovereignty to Job… but God NEVER tells Job why it all went down the way it did! UNBELIEVABLE.
Of course… we all want to know why things happen. But the fact is that we often don’t know or won’t know or even might be too fragile to know… I mean… really… how would Job have reacted had he known that he was God’s “all-in” during a cosmic game of Texas Hold-Em?
