No… not that SPAM.
The kind where the comments section of your blog gets filled with ads like your email inbox does. Unless your email is hosted by whoever hosts mine because it has a wonderful spam filter… worth any price being paid.
First I tried to have a little keyword to type in… but some spammers were beating it.
So… I moved to Akismet a few weeks ago. I’m liking it A LOT. If you want to know how it works… click below… if not… read down to the jump and then stop.
If you post a comment and don’t see it appear almost immediately… please let me know as it is probably in the spam filter and I’d like to set your comment free!
Here’s how many spam messages have been caught in the last 3 weeks or so…

Funny… I was reading about People of the American Revolution earlier…
Akismet works by scanning all of the comments as they are submitted… running tests to determine if they are spam or not. If it determines that it isn’t spam, it posts the comment in the appropriate blog entry. If it believes something *is* spam, it will save it in a database for 15 days and then delete it. During the 15 days, I can search the database and “de-spam” anything that it called spam, but which is actually a valid comment.
I’ve been checking that database *very* often for the last 3 weeks since I installed Akismet and out of nearly 1800 comments it thought were spam… there have been ZERO mistakes. It has not ever blocked a valid comment and it has never let a spamalicious comment through to my blog. So…….
Here’s what I’m gonna do from now on….
Not worry about spam comments again… I’m gonna stop checking the database and just trust Akismet will continue to rock. If you comment and don’t see it appear… let me know, but I think this is working really well… and for frequent commenters you are already clear… just don’t spam me, K?

Yes, it works great, doesn’t it? I was so thankful I added a little button onto my sidebar showing how much spam was blocked.
Of course, recently on someone else’s blog I was blocked by Akismet! I guess it’s not quite perfect (I don’t even eat spam).
