What Kind of World Do You Want?

March 1st, 2007 · 2 Comments

As you’ll notice if you see my last.fm chart next week, I’ve gotten into the music of Five For Fighting lately.

I had heard the most popular songs, but I’m impressed with the depth of the songs on each record. If you haven’t listed to anything other than Superman and 100 Years, you are missing out on a lot of fun and thought provoking music.

I looked into the music a little more after hearing this podcast with Glen & Helen Reynolds and Five for Fighting’s John Ondrasik on War, Peace and Music. With all the nutjobs in the music industry and in hollywood… I was blown away by the hopeful and rational outlook of this guy with a great voice, band, and songwriting skills.

During the podcast, Ondrasik mentioned a website that he’s created based on his song World.

www.whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com

I encourage you to check it out… here’s the deal (taken from the website itself)…

whatkindofWORLDdoyouwant.com is the first video community that gives back!

We are all connected to one another through our actions. Each person has the ability to make a difference. This is one of the messages of the Five For Fighting video “World”.

Tell the world what kind of world you want and raise money for charity by making and uploading a video of yourself, your friends or your family answering the question, “What Kind Of World Do You Want”.

Or, you can raise money for charity by simply watching any of the videos posted on the site. Each time you watch a video*, up to 49 cents will be donated to charity. You will be able to select a charity from a list that John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting has personally selected.

The charities Ondrasik selected are:

Although there aren’t very many videos uploaded yet (It just started today), maybe you can click on over and raise some money for one of the charities. Or… some of you with video talent could even create and up a video.

Nice to see people using their fame to do something really worthwhile.

For the record… I’m really impressed with Bono’s The ONE Campaign too (although the volunteers at Cornerstone 2006 were borderline abusive in their pleas for your time and donations and petition signing). Private help for the ills of this world will always be more effective than some faceless and bureaucratic government’s help, IMO. I’ve always thought that Bono had an authentic spirituality and it really comes out in his 2006 National Prayer Breakfast Keynote Address which I’m going to go listen to again (for about the 5th time) right now.
