Delilah, Please Meet Your Group @ the Pigeons

March 31st, 2007 · 4 Comments

We like when short term mission groups come. We just had a group visit for a day… yesterday… talk about short term. wow.

[a little reminder to those thinking about bringing groups... we really need to know about your interest in coming over 12 months before your trip]

One of our goals here is to provide an opportunity for people to come and learn a bit more about missions in general and about what it might be like to live in another culture. Our supporting churches are always welcome and we try to accomodate as many college groups as possible.

Central Christian College of the Bible sent a group of 8 students over during their spring break. They spent most of the time with the Yung Ho church and over at the Home of God’s Love, but we were thrilled when they asked to come spend a day with us.

We didn’t lose a single one. Although some were lost at various points during the day.

We planned to take the group on a hike but we didn’t plan on the weather being unseasonably hot (about 90 degrees). We went ahead with the hike and there is a temple at the end of the trail. As the students were looking around the temple a bit and checking out the amazing view of the city from the top of the mountain, we all ended up standing in the temple and talking about some of the activities and had the chance to speak with one of the temple volunteers as well. We turned to leave… and discovered we were missing one… Delilah. She had a video camera and had been moving about the grounds and taking some footage and we found out later that she couldn’t find us and figured that we went back down the trail and she left to catch us. We didn’t know she had left and so we combed the area trying to find her.

Eventually, I went into the temple office and asked if we could page her. A few seconds later I found myself on the PA at the Fu De Daoist Temple… “Delilah would you please meet your group at the pigeons… Delilah please meet you group at the pigeons.” Of course after the anouncement I thought of all kinds of great things that I should have said while I had the full attention of the worshipers there… but in my surprise at being the one to actually make the announcement and at my realization that I didn’t know where I would tell her to meet us… I just ended up making a silly announcement about Delilah and some pigeons. We prayed… decided that she had left on her own and we headed back down the trail. The others on the trail proved to be helpful as they let me know where the foreign girl with the braided black hair and the red shirt was.

They also did a great job teaching at Joshua’s preschool in the morning and then after dinner we had an activity for people to come to a big room and practice their English while playing games and xbox with the students and our family. We had NO IDEA what to expect with this activity. (I LOVE trying new things!) In the end about 20 or 25 people came and several were very good contacts. Our neighbor, Andy, came with his cousin Angel and when he kept winning at UNO (his first time playing!) we switched to Sequence and Todd Wallis and I took the title!

TO THE CCCB STUDENTS: THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO COME VISIT US! Please let us know of your plans for the future. You are a blessing to the nations!

Here’s some pics of the group… that I stole off of Renea’s memory card.

In Lotung…

Asparagus juice is a tasty treat…

At Josh’s school

It seems that you are off balance young padawan

On the trail… when we looked somewhat energized and didn’t smell bad… that all changed shortly after this photo was taken.

It was really awesome to be a part of this trip, and it blessed us im sure as much as it did you. I still think that at a Daoist temple deep in rural Taiwan, a group of dedicated Daoists, light incense and chant “Delilah, please come to the pigeons, delilah please come to the pigeons…”

Glad I could be a part!

Thank you so much Scott for hosting us! We appreciated the opportunities to serve and to see what God is doing in Taiwan. I can’t wait to hear what He will do next through you.
