Sorry I didn’t mention this sooner!
Angie did include it in our recent email update so it might not be new to you.
On May 5th… at 10AM local time… I’ll start up the stairs of the world’s tallest building, Taipei 101. My goal is to reach the 91st floor observation deck.
This is a rare opportunity because there are already buildings under construction that will surpass the height record set by Taipei 101.
For more information you can check out the website:

The climb is actually an attempt to raise some money for some great charities. I’ve had a few people sponsor my climb already… but if you’d like to do so you can through that website. Just click on “Sponsor a Climber” and you’ll see my name listed “Pagel Scott”.
Most of the funds will go to: Garden of Hope which offers essential services for victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and child prostitution in Taiwan.
Another charity is The Center which is a non-profit organization founded in 1987 to serve the international community in Taipei by offering crisis intervention, counseling, newcomer orientation programs, cross cultural workshops, continuing education, and information services.
Some of you have met my friend Bart… he got me into this and we are climbing together. Actually… we’ll be starting together… but I imagine he’ll be quite a bit faster than me this year!
I’ll try to report back about this experience when it is over!
May 5th is also the 1 year anniversary of my Grandma Pagel’s passing (1, 2). I’m dedicating the climb to her memory and to honor my Grandpa Pagel who is one of America’s greatest nonagenarian golfers. With his knee replacements he’s a bit of a “robo-grandpa” but I can only hope to be doing so well if I live as long as he has. I imagine that thinking of Grandma and Grandpa will inspire me greatly from about the 60th floor on! Bless you Grandpa!
