Here’s a picture of me and some friends at the top of Taipei 101… actually we are only at the 91st floor which is as high as you can go unless you are an elevator maintenance person!
Bart is on the left and Ramon is in the middle… he’s the one who actually got us involved in this craziness…
The difference between this and most pictures that you’ll see of people at the top of 101 is that we all WALKED up there!
We climbed the stairs for charity and I had personal interests as well. I’m still trying to lose the weight that I gained on our last furlough… and I wasn’t really at the right weight BEFORE that… so this climb is also part of my plan to get my weight down.
The climb was tougher than I expected in some ways… the floors were a little higher than the ones in my building where I practiced. But it was easier than my practice in some ways too… the stairwell was clean and MUCH better ventilated than my building.
My goal was to climb in less than 1 hour… it was somewhat arbitrary as I really had nothing to go on. My goal next year will be 30 minutes. I made it this year in about 45 minutes. I’m sure I could have gone faster, but just kept it slow and steady. Bart did it in 25 minutes and another friend made it in 19… isn’t that great?
The toughest part for me was from about 30 through 60.
I enjoyed the climb and I hope we can get some more co-workers and church members to join us and make a big team of climbers next year!

Wow! That is amazing . . . that you climbed all the way up there.
I didn’t even know you could do that. So, did you take the elevator down? Do you still have to buy a ticket?
Climbing for charity—were there lots of people doing this or was it a small group?
Anyway, I think it is so neat! Congrats!!

Amanda… your message got caught in my spam filter… sorry it just got posted now.
We did take the elevator back down… a big service elevator… kinda funny.
We didn’t have to buy a ticket, but we did have to pay or raise $2500 for charity… prepaid.
It was a really large group… one company had 127 climbers! Maybe 500 people overall? I don’t really know.
Thanks for your comment!
