I’ll have more about our trip to Taroko Gorge later… but I’ve gotta let you know about this.
We hiked to the Baiyang Waterfall (in the rain - both ways) and while we were at the falls we spent a few minutes taking shelter (and a rest).
One other family was there. They noticed that my kids had “Nebraska” on their shirts and so asked (in perfect English) if we were from Nebraska. I said that I was and that my wife was from Missouri… St. Louis… and they say, “We live in St. Louis”.
Here’s a rough translation of the rest of the conversation…
Angie: I grew up in Creve Coeur.
Them: We live in Maryland Heights. (Which is the next suburb over from Creve Coeur!)
Angie: I lived there until I was 6. On Ameling Road. And I went to McKelvey Elementary.
Them: Our daughters go there!
Angie: My kindergarten teacher was Mrs. Lunt… is she still there?
Them: She is retired now… but she was Pennie’s kindergarten teacher!
Angie: NO WAY! I thought she was old 30 years ago!
Much laughter and picture taking ensued… turns out they are from Taiwan and moved to St. Louis about 17 years ago. Here’s a blurry pic of Pennie and Angie.
Pennie’s mom, Jenny, is the owner of Maryland Heights Florist so if you are in that area (and I know that some of you who read this are!) please stop by and tell her “HELLO” and that you know us too.
