Who I Am and Who He Is

So, when Scott asked me to type up a guest post about our short term trip for his blog, I was ecstatic! I love typing and blogging! After months of not so patiently waiting for the day my team met up, it finally happened! In Los Angeles, California, fourteen of us sat at the airport at 11:00 pm for our 1:00 am- 14 hour flight! That was the LONGEST I have ever sat in one place for! But, we made it safely with ALL of our luggage! All of us but one, Jamie did not get to experience the joy because her passport failed to come. I miss having her and wonder what Gods plan is for her!

Scott picked us up from the airport (a little late I may mention ;-) We love you, Scott). We headed to Taipei for the start of our journey for the Lord! And now, we’ve been here for a little over one week! It is going by so fast! I love our team. We work together so well and get along great!

One of the hardest and saddest things that I (along with the team) have experienced was our visit to the temple. It was hard seeing all these people, young and old, worshiping these false idols. They were searching for this hope that WE have! One thing in particular was watching a young little boy being taught how to use the prayer blocks and worship the idols. Talk about heartbreaking! He was just a kid and he was already being pulled into this huge trap!

The coolest thing has been the Home of Gods Love orphanage! It was amazing! I was really struggling with why God had called me to go on this trip. But, at the orphanage I realized my love for those kids. It was hard not to favor some of the kids. I adored the babies! It was so sad though to have to put them down after holding them for a while because they couldn’t get in their head to be held all the time. There was one girl that I met. She was kind of off by herself so I went over to talk to her. Her English was pretty good. She knew enough English and I knew enough Chinese to communicate with each other. She was fourteen and she told me her story about how her two sisters and her brother were all there because their mother and father didn’t care. She had so much faith in God! I didn’t find out until later that her English name was, in fact, FAITH! How amazing is that? She taught me a lot about love and friendship!

I have now officially been to one of the most beautiful place ever! The Taroko Gorge! It was absolutely WONDERFUL!!! I am so amazed that all I can say is you must visit it to better understand its beauty!

But anyways, there are a couple things that have happened so far. God has shown me so much. I’m learning more about who I am and who HE is! God had blessed me so much with my team, my team leaders (Greg and Deb Hafer), The Pagels, and the people we come in contact with every day! I am so thankful for everyone’s prayers! I pray that God blesses each of you!

In Love With The Mission,
Jess Schmucker

That is so sad about Jamie. Our family had her over for some lunches and laundry this past school year. We had talked about the trip and how excited she was about it. We saw the picture of the group on the newsletter and didn’t see her and wondered if where she was. We are praying for the group and the trip.

    Howdy Jessica!!
It is truly awesome to hear from you and to read how God is working in and through you!! We miss you, are praying daily for you, and are keeping your Mom strong :o) Did you meet the newest member of the Schmucker family at the Home?? It is amazing how God works and puts you in an orphanage to touch those children with your love! Take care and continue to know He is with you! Kevin, Cindy and kids
