We’ve been enjoying our time with the CIY group (welcome to all the friends and family of those in the group!) and I thought I’d share a quick post about one thing they just helped with and another starting today.
We held a Vacation Bible School for the kids in our community (apartment complex) last week, Monday - Friday from 7PM to 9PM. It went really well aside from some cultural issues that I’ll either address in another post or maybe not at all. The short version is that while *ALL* of the parents whose kids joined us were really pleased that we held this event… and almost all the other residents… there were some who were not pleased at all… but not for the content or quality of the event… but because their Karaoke machine didn’t work after we left the room (and we didn’t touch it). I’m not sure how to write about it politely so I’ll move on.
Here’s a slide show from the VBS… I’ll add more pics later when I get them from the CIY group.
This next week, we’ll be in Taichung for the 2nd Annual Team Expansion Sports and English Camp. Our teammate, Chad Edwards, has been preparing for months and the time is finally here. Our family… other missionaries… church members… the CIY group… and another group from Central Missouri State University will be helping.I’m teaching tennis… others are helping in other areas. I’m speaking about David and Goliath on Monday sometime. I don’t like to translate for myself so hopefully someone will translate for me. I usually start out OK, but quickly begin to focus on one language more than the other and it is really unbalanced. I’ve noticed that most others do this too. I’d actually prefer to speak in Chinese with someone translating into English, but I’m not sure how it will be.
