Taiwan’s 7-11 culture in Chicago Tribune

August 13th, 2007 · 3 Comments

TAIPEI, Taiwan - From the intersection of Zhongshan and Zhongxiao Roads in Taiwan’s bustling capital, you can spot at least four 7-Eleven stores as you turn north, south, east and west. No joke.

Where Convenience Is King — chicagotribune.com

Interesting article…

Visitors to Taiwan are usually surprised by the number of 7-11s here. The article mentions that they are sometimes found across the street from another 7-11. That is true in Yunghe near Ren Ai park and Sogo. The Bells live over there and if you come out of their apartment and go over to the main road there are 2 7-11s facing each other. It used to be totally irrelevant which one a person might visit… but one of them ditched their slurpee machine so that really only leaves one choice now doesn’t it?

I do like how many things we can do at 7-11 here. They don’t sell gas like in the USA, but overall they are truly very convenient as the article does a great job explaining.

The picture below is from wikipedia user SElefant who writes:

With the highest distribution density no matter by population or by land area, it’s not really unusual to see two 7-ELEVEn outlets located in a very short distance in Taiwan. This photo is taken near Taipei MRT Xindian(Sindian) Station, a suburban subway terminal in southern fringe of the Taipei metropolitan area. You can see two 7-ELEVEn shops stand face to face in different corner of the same intersection.

When we lived in Yunghe, we had a 7-11 on the first floor of our apartment building… now we have to walk for 5 minutes… but I think we are getting a grocery store in our basement… I’ll get back to you on that one!

gotta LOVE all the 7-11s. I live in between 2 7-11s and 2 OKs. And, I actually do frequent all four.

I just paid my first traffic ticket at one of them not too long ago. :) yep, pretty convenient.

    thanks for sharing this article.
