My name is Amy. I am 17 years old, and I am going to be a senior in high school this year. This summer I had the blessing of spending a month in Taiwan with the Pagel family. I had actually met them the summer before while they were on furlough here in the states. I attend Edmond Christian Church which is part of the Pagel’s supporting team. This trip was such an amazing opportunity to learn and serve. It’s hard to know what I would want to share with you, but I will try to pick a few of my most memorable experiences.
While we were in Taiwan, I prayed many times for God to use me. As I saw Him answer my prayers and give me a chance to be useful for Him, I felt so humbled. I often was overwhelmed when I thought of His grace. How impressive is it that God would treat me as if I am good enough to do His work?! On this trip, I really learned a lot about God’s grace and the promise he gives in 2 Corinthians 12:9: “My grace is sufficient for you because my power is made perfect in weakness.”
One very memorable experience for me was while we were staying in Taidong. I was raised in a different church as a child and never had an opportunity to be biblically baptized. I had often considered being immersed, but there was always an excuse to wait. On this trip, after discussion with my team leader and after some prayer and consideration, I decided NO MORE EXCUSES! So, I was baptized in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Taiwan. The location was beautiful and a testament to God’s glory, but what is more beautiful is baptism itself: death, burial, and new life. God is really good.
Another great blessing was simply to spend time with the Pagel family. It was encouraging and I learned a lot by watching how they live. Leading by example is definitely the best way to lead, and the Pagels definitely do so. I am so thankful for the time I had with them.
“So anyways…” God is amazing, and I can see how He is doing some huge things to work in the hearts of Taiwanese people.
