USC rolled over Nebraska 49-31.
It went about as I figured it would go in my head… except that I thought it would be closer and I didn’t anticipate that Nebraska’s tackling would be so poor so I thought the score would be lower, too.
I’m not going to analyze the game… I’ve got other things to do that actually matter… but since I posted about the game before the game it seemed right to man up and acknowledge the defeat.
As I mentioned in the other post… even with the loss, all of the season’s realistic goals are still in tact, although a win over USC would have made a lot of us feel better.
It is funny seeing how Nebraska fans handle being a good but not great team. Some of them seem to be literally losing their minds. It is interesting what a difference the internet makes in fan reaction and input these days.
NU 2007 is a pretty decent team… it is possible they won’t lose another game this year. It is also possible they might lose 4 more! But the point is… since USC is VERY legit, it is still a little hard to know how NU matches up against “ordinary” teams. For NU fans who are experiencing chest pain after this loss… try to remember how big the gap was between #1 NU and #2 Florida in 1995 as well as in some other years where 1 or 2 or 3 teams were WAY better than the rest.
It isn’t “accepting mediocrity” to acknowledge that NU’s talent still doesn’t match up with USC’s after several years of horrible recruiting. It is improving, though.
It could be worse… I could be a fan of UCLA, Iowa, Arkansas, Michigan, Notre Dame, Louisville, Oklahoma State, etc… now… fans of those teams really have some things to worry about.
If Nebraska doesn’t take care of business against Ball State and Iowa State the next couple weeks… they’ll be added to that list… and I’ll still be a fan.
