Hopefully the nightmare is over!

Actually I *do* know that calling anything in college football a nightmare is shallow… but I’m gonna stick with that term for now.

I supported Frank Solich and Bill Callahan to the very end… because I’m a fan of the team and the school no matter who is the coach. Plus it really looked like BC’s problems would be mostly solved by hiring a capable Defensive Coordinator and eating about 6 slices of humble pie. But when he chose to do *neither* in the middle of the 2007 nightmare season, he even lost me.

Back in 2003, fans were clamoring for Bo Pelini to be the new HC. I was not one of them as it seemed fairly obvious that he had mad coaching skillz but had some massive attitude problems and some growing up to do. He admitted so much himself at the press conference introducing him as the new HC at Nebraska.

I’m glad he’s at NU now and think NU will notice immediate improvement in intensity and pride. The talent level is already way above average so I’m optimistic that we might have a fairly quick return to respectability. I’m hoping that BP will retain Shawn Watson as his OC. Even in the 2007 season, when BC started letting Watson control more of the offense, the offense improved quite a bit. The offense wasn’t really the problem in 2007 although there was room for improvement. I hope Watson gets the chance to build upon what he was doing at the end of 2007 with the offense.
