Hi everyone. Thanks so much for the prayers… good wishes… happy thoughts… emails and comments… visits… gifts of food… and everything else!
I heard from far away friends and received visits from people living in Taipei. I received messages from people who only know me from the blog… and received visits from those we’ve worked with side-by-side during our 8 years in Taipei. I’m feeling very loved!
I’m also feeling like the surgery was successful. My incision and the muscles around it are still hurting… but that’s normal. Once they settle down, I’ll know if there is any pain in my back where it was giving me trouble. I suspect there won’t be any. I usually felt sharp pain down both legs and now only a small bit of numbness in my right.
I’m glad to be home, but it will be harder to be a good patient here. It is good for me to be up and about… walking… sitting… but lifting is TOTALLY out of the question for several days and all I see around home is work to be done… things to be lifted… kids to be wrestled with, etc.
Craig Thompson visited and let me borrow a Brian Regan DVD (Brian Regan: Standing Up) and watching that was one of the highlights of my hospital stay… what a riot. I literally had to stop watching a couple times because my stitches were hurting!
Proverbs 17:22 says “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
All of you who visited, emailed, commented, prayed… truly helped me and have made my heart full of cheer. Indeed it is very good medicine. Thanks for everything. I’d love it if you would continue to pray.
The next few weeks are important… it will take about 3 weeks for the wound to heal and about 2 months for the bone to heal. I don’t have to be stationary that whole time and can start working into activities shortly, but it is important not to rush it. I hope to climb Taipei 101 again this May so that will be a good goal. My current goal is to be able to make it down to Taidong in a couple weeks so I can enjoy company with good friends and the beach with our friends the Gants. The doctor says it is OK.

glad you made it home! Leave it to Craig Thompson to try to kill a recovering surgery patient with laughter! And if I was recovering from anything I’d do it at the beach too! Good Plan!

Scott and Family,
Saw you had surgery from Sean’s blog. I’m so happy to hear you are doing well. We Chaffee’s in Boise will also keep you in our prayers.
